What does the program cover?

  1. 01Aerial-image fundamentals and how viewpoint, angle and altitude differ from ground imaging.
  2. 02Camera exposure settings including ISO, shutter speed and aperture where available.
  3. 03Frame rate, shutter and motion appearance.
  4. 04ND filters and light control.
  5. 05White balance, color profiles and color consistency.
  6. 06Composition, leading lines, negative space and depth.
  7. 07Coordinating aircraft and gimbal movement.
  8. 08Reveal, orbit, tracking and compound moves, with emphasis on why a move is chosen.
  9. 09Pre-flight shot planning, movement path, light, background and obstacles.
  10. 10Shot lists and scene continuity.
  11. 11Adapting style for property, projects, advertising, events and visual content.
  12. 12Footage review and analysis of flight, gimbal, planning and camera-setting improvements.

  • Photographers or content creators adding aerial imaging to their skill set.
  • Drone operators seeking better shot quality and movement.

Optional field application

Normally 1–3 days, with additional time possible for larger teams depending on trainee count, practical objectives and the delivery plan.

  • Aircraft/camera preparation and setting selection.
  • Core movements and aircraft/gimbal coordination.
  • Execute a short shot list and repeat shots for improvement.
  • Mini shooting scenario from objective through planning, capture and review.

Expected outcome

A structured understanding of aerial-shot planning, camera settings, aircraft/gimbal movement and building a more coherent set of shots for the visual objective.

Program and certificate boundaries

  • Completion alone is not a claim of professional cinematographer status.
  • SAMT-FLY is not a mandatory prerequisite for the online program; it may be recommended before field work for highly inexperienced participants.
  • The certificate is internal, not official accreditation.
