SAMT-GEO
Topographic Survey & LiDAR
From flight path to data you can measure.
A specialist program for drone-enabled spatial-data collection, from mission planning, coverage and accuracy concepts to photogrammetry, LiDAR and QA/QC.
- Level
- Specialist / Technical
- Delivery
- Online + optional field add-on
- Duration
- 5 days / 30 hours online
01
What does the program cover?
- 01Drone-survey workflow from mission requirements to collection and outputs.
- 02Mission planning, boundaries, altitude and flight path.
- 03GSD and the relationship between altitude and spatial resolution.
- 04Front/side overlap and its effect on coverage and processing.
- 05The difference between apparent image quality and spatial accuracy/reliability.
- 06GNSS / RTK / PPK and spatial referencing.
- 07Photogrammetry fundamentals.
- 08Orthomosaic, point cloud, DSM, DTM and DEM outputs.
- 09LiDAR fundamentals, laser measurement and point clouds.
- 10GNSS / IMU / LiDAR integration.
- 11Choosing between photogrammetry and LiDAR for the task.
- 12QA/QC for coverage, gaps, consistency and data quality.
02
Who is it for?
- Drone operators interested in survey and spatial-data workflows.
- Engineers and technicians who need to understand aerial data collection.
- GIS, survey and project teams, and organizations developing internal capability.
03
Optional field application
Normally 1–3 days and may expand with trainee count, scope and equipment. Hands-on LiDAR is only stated when equipment, conditions and the delivery plan are confirmed.
- Turn training-mission requirements into a flight plan.
- Choose coverage, altitude, GSD and overlap.
- Collect data and review coverage completeness.
- Identify gaps/errors and review Mission → Capture → Data → QA/QC → Output.
04
Expected outcome
A structured understanding of aerial-data collection planning, accuracy factors, photogrammetry vs. LiDAR outputs, and QA/QC review.
Program and certificate boundaries
- The program does not confer professional surveyor status or a surveying licence.
- Completion does not guarantee a specific survey accuracy.
- Hands-on LiDAR depends on confirmed equipment, site and delivery plan.
- The certificate is internal, not professional or regulatory accreditation.
